We live in a county that doesn't have an animal shelter. The road at the back of our farm has no other houses for miles, and it's the perfect place for uncaring and cruel animal owners to drop off their unwanted pets. Sudie Belle is usually the recipient of these scared, lost, and hungry critters foraging for food and kindness in an unkind world. We are currently the caretakers of 40 of these special furry friends, including dogs, cats, horses, and donkeys. Our goal is to rehabilitate them with the help of our homeless veterans, in order to find loving 'forever' homes for them. In doing so, the veterans form a bond with the animals and find purpose for their own lives. There's just something about the love and trust of an animal that makes their own problems seem less harsh.
We raise money for the project by scouring the countryside for things we can sell at auction. This money is used for veterinary care, feed, and supplies, in addition to providing food and shelter for the G.I.'s. Even though Sudie Belle Sanctuary is well-established, we are in the early stages of this project with the homeless vets, and take in any and all contributions that are offered. We have obtained the services of a competent and caring farrier, as well as an auctioneer to help us out. Food, vaccinations, and housing for the animals are real needs that we are trying to work out.
